THE ACADEMIES were developed as thematic school programs for underserved Juvenile Court and Community School students from schools with limited resources.  The Academies offered students an opportunity to explore their career interests while completing their high school graduation course requirements.  Each new school offered a stimulating on-site environment, courtesy of their partner hosts.  Students experienced an extended school day which included standards-based education, community service, internships, employment and concurrent college enrollment.  The program was financed by securing an annual $1 million dollar funding source from the California Department of Education (SB 1095) through a competitive grant process.
